Two paths into nursing

3 years

Training as a Registered Nurse

The generalist nursing training under the Nursing Professions Act (PflBG) qualifies you for nursing in all settings – inpatient, outpatient and paediatric.

Qualification: State-recognised Registered Nurse
Practical placements in long-term inpatient care, acute hospital and outpatient care
Allowance in year 1 approx. €1,230, rising to approx. €1,500 in year 3
Entry requirement: intermediate school leaving certificate or lower secondary + completed vocational training
EU / non-EU applicants welcome (residence permit required)

Training as a Nursing Care Assistant

The quick entry into nursing – ideal for career changers and as a foundation for subsequent Registered Nurse training.

Qualification: State-recognised Nursing Care Assistant
Support of Registered Nurses in basic care and patient assistance
Training allowance in line with collective agreement
Entry requirement: lower secondary school certificate or equivalent
Option to shorten subsequent Registered Nurse training

Financing

Funding & Financing

Nursing training is financially attractive and well-supported – we show you all the options available.

Training Allowance

You receive an allowance from the very first day of training. This increases each year and amounts to approximately €1,500 gross per month in the third year.

BAföG (Student Aid)

Depending on your income and that of your parents, BAföG grants may be available. We can help you with the application.

Advancement BAföG

For further qualifications after training – up to €15,000 as a partially non-repayable grant may be available.

Recognition Advice

International professionals with foreign nursing qualifications can access funding for recognition measures.

Job Centre & Employment Agency

Certain retraining and apprenticeship programmes can be fully funded through the Job Centre or the Federal Employment Agency (FbW).
